FLEXCOAT Reel Seat Arbors
Glued in place with epoxy, these lightweight arbors create a super strong bond between the reel seat and the rod blank that increases sensitivity. The arbor is a solid, semi-porous polyurethane material that is machined to fit most sizes of reel seats and can be turned down to fit between sizes. All arbors have a 1/4" inside diameter pilot hole which can be easily reamed or drilled out to fit any rod blank.

Notes on custom fitting Reel Seat Arbors with a pilot drill bit.
Pilot drill bits are any bit with a self-guiding shaft on the tip 
designed to follow a pre-existing hole. In this case the pre-existing hole in these arbors is 1/4" in diameter. Pilot drill bits can be bought from machine tool suppliers, but can be made. We build our own pilot bits from wood boring spade bits of all sizes by attaching an aluminum 1/4" outside diameter tube to the tip with epoxy glue. 
To make for a strong bond, the sharp tip of the spade bit must be scored and reshaped with a Dremel tool, then we secure a 1" piece of the 1/4" aluminum tube over the scored tip with paste epoxy. We take special care to keep the tube centered by eye or with our machined pilot bit drying rig.
Once the pilot bit is dry, we drill out the center of the arbor, secured in a reel seat, to a diameter just smaller than the blank. The pilot bit will guide itself through the center of the arbor without deviation with a hand drill. We then touch up the drilled hole with a tapered abrasive reamer to match the desired taper of the rod blank.
Pilot Drill Bits
The pilot drill bit guides itself through a pre-existing hole in order to increase the diameter. These tools are made from spade bits with an aluminum pilot on the tip. When used with a hand drill the result is a perfectly centered hole. Flex Coat Pilot Drill Bits are available in 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 9/16", 5/8" & special order sizes.

Pilot Drill Bit Jig
Using this jig you can make your own pilot bits for precision drilling reel seat arbors with a 1/4" pilot hole. It is important to maintain accurate alignment when securing the pilot tube to the tip of the spade bit. This jig is precision machined to maintain this alignment and fit most spade bit sizes available on the market. This unit comes with six 1/4" diameter X 1" length aluminum pilot tubes.
